Just a quick couple of thanks and answers

Posted in News and Comment with tags , on August 10, 2007 by Tommie

Thanks everyone for the kind comments on the Buddha.  I have never been big on “Hey look at me!!!” kind of stuff… but it is nice to have a bit of recognition for something I created.  The bottle I used is something around 3 3/4 inches tall the sculpt is just under double that.  The cap to the bottle is actually the Buddha’s head.  Thanks again for the compliments.  I hope to have a full website up soon, til then keep checking in here for stuff.

The CHA Drama of which Sarah spoke

Basically what happened was this… When we arrived at the Amaco booth, Lynne Ann tried to shield the display case from me.  Well the Hope symbol that the Buddha was holding up had been broken at some point during transit along the lines somewhere.  So when there was a break in the crowd we got some clay from the booth and we went to have some lunch and recreate the sign.  We used Cat’s camera to take a photo of the hope sign, we used Ponsowan’s folder and (free) excel craft knife and pretty much improvised a recreation of the piece.  Linda Peterson was doing a demo at the Amaco booth when I got back and I used her heat gun to give it a quick set and I put it on the piece just in front of the broken bit because people were voting.  Finally after most people were gone I put the fixed bit back into Lisa Pavelka’s oven and then we cut off the old broken bit and glued the new piece on.

So that was the drama of CHA and the Buddha Bottle.

Hey I actually won…

Okay neighbors, recently I went with Lynne Ann to CHA. It was a good time and I got to meet some new folks and meet back up with some old folks… I am sure they won’t like that way of putting it.  One of the top reasons why we attended CHA is that we both had bottles in the top 25 in the Amaco Bottles of Hope Challenge.  You can see the ceremony and interviews with me, Lynne Ann, and Cat at www.polymerclayproductions.com if you would like to feel just as if you had been there.

Anyway, Lynne won Best Expression of Hope with her beautiful canework on a black lava rock textured bottle.  I was very proud of her.  It got down to the wire on awards and the final award was the Designers Choice or Best in Show… and I’ll be damned, Lisa called me up.  So I thought maybe someone might want to take a look at my ‘award winning’ bottle.  Finally proof that I am more than just a pretty face and an opinionated polymer clay guy.

Okay folks… I have domains and all that just haven’t worked out the hosting yet… but for now I wanted to just have a spot to which I can send people to see a picture or two, or read a rant or three.  Thanks for stopping by… the first real post will be about CHA and the Amaco Bottles of Hope Challenge.
